However, sometimes we tend to forget the shy little does who produce the cute little fawns with the adorable spots. The doe is a beautiful animal, I love the big brown eyes and the innocent look the does have.
Does are in abundance in the Cove and you are likely to see them year round.
The gestation period for whitetail deer is approximately seven months, and birth usually occurs in the Cove in late June. Whitetail does tend to have one, two or three fawns. New born fawns have no defense, often lost to predators, namely bear and coyote...If you find a fawn, leave it alone...don't try to move it. You will endanger it by moving it , mother has placed it in a safe place.
The cute fawn in the photos below was taken on Sparks Lane on the fourth of July. He was very active and we watched him run for a while.
He soon became a little shy and hid behind his mom.
The next time you enjoy a trip to the cove, take time to observe and enjoy the beautiful nature of the whitetail doe, and maybe even get a look at her adorable little ones.
